United Kingdom

        The United Kingdom, is an island country located off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe. The United Kingdom comprises England, Wales, and Scotland, and Northern Island and scattered territories around the world including the Falkland Islands. The name Britain is sometimes used to refer to the United Kingdom as a whole. The capital is London, which is among the world’s leading commercial, financial, and cultural centres. Other major cities include Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester in England, Belfast and Londonderry in Northern Ireland, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, and Swansea and Cardiff in Wales. 

       The United Kingdom is the 6th largest Economy by nominal GDP and 9th Largest Economy by Purchasing Power Parity. It has a High Income and has a very high Human Development Index Rating, ranking 14th in the world. It was the world's first industrialised country and the world's foremost power during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The UK remains a great power, with considerable economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence internationally.

      The United Kingdom is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the G7, the G20, NATO, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD), Interpol and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). It was a leading member state of the European Union (EU) and its predecessor, the European Economic Community (EEC) for 47 years, between 1 January 1973 and withdrawal on 31 January 2020.
